Hike: the customs officers' path
From Ensuès-la-Redonne to Niolon, along the calanques of the Côte Bleue
The customs officers' path follows the sea along the Côte Bleue. Starting from Ensuès-la-Redonne, it leads to Niolon: a coastal hike you can start on foot from the apartment, with open views over the sea and Marseille.
The route at a glance
- Distance: about 8 km, from La Redonne to Niolon.
- Time: 4 to 5 hours of walking, including swimming stops.
- Stages: the harbours and calanques of Ensuès, the Érevine island, small coves, then Niolon.
- Return: by train, on the Côte Bleue line.
Niolon, the finish

Niolon is a small harbour tucked into the cliff, known among local divers for its groupers. The Côte Bleue Marine Park protects a marine reserve right in front of the calanque.
Practical tips
- Start early in summer and carry plenty of water.
- Closed walking shoes are better than flip-flops: the path is rocky.
- When there is a wildfire risk, access to the hills may be restricted or forbidden: check before you leave (Bouches-du-Rhône prefecture).
For the return, take the Côte Bleue train (see the dedicated page linked at the bottom of this page).
